Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to remove elective subjects from state service main examination from 2027
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced major changes in the pattern of the state services main examination. From the 2027 exams, candidates will no longer need to choose elective subjects as the board has decided to remove them from the exam schedule. In a press release issued on June 25, the board said that candidates currently appearing for the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and B) main examinations will have to write two papers in the elective subjects. However, this requirement will end from the 2027 exams.Explaining the decision, the MPSC said the Public Service Commissions in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have removed elective subjects from the state service main examination. “Instead, they adopted a more uniform and standardized assessment system,” the committee said. After reviewing various aspects, the committee said it has decided to introduce a similar model in Maharashtra. As per the revised scheme, candidates will have to appear for seven compulsory papers. These include papers in Marathi and English, one paper in Marathi or English and four general knowledge research papers. The language paper is still qualifying in nature and candidates need to score at least 25%. The full score of the written test is 1250 points, the full score of the interview is 275 points, and the total score is 1525 points. The China Securities Regulatory Commission also stated that the revised detailed review plan will be announced separately on its official website. The MPSC clarified that this change will only apply to the National Service Main Examination. The Maharashtra Forest Department main exams will continue to be elective subjects. It also said there will be no change in the existing examination pattern for the Maharashtra Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Services, Maharashtra Agriculture Services, Food and Drug Administration Services, Maharashtra Veterinary Services and Legal Metrology Inspector main examinations.
