New Delhi: Pakistan ended the second day of the first Test against West Indies on a strong note, posting 199/3 in reply to the hosts’ first-innings total of 311. Former captain Shan Masood, who led the fightback with an unbeaten 88, made an impressive return with the bat after resigning as captain not long ago. He was well supported by Imam-ul-Haq who scored 63 runs and the duo shared a vital partnership of 155 runs.Pakistan lost an early wicket when Azan Awais was bowled Kema Roachbut Masoud and Imam stabilized the game with positive stroke play. Masood completed his half-century off just 46 balls, while Imam scored 50 in the 11th Test before being dismissed for 63 balls. New captain Babar Azam scored 23 more balls before falling late in the day, while Salman Agha remained unbeaten at stumps along with Masood after poor light brought the match to an early end.Earlier, West Indies were bowled out for 311 after resuming play at 194/3. Shai Hope shot 92 to narrowly miss the century mark, while Kavem Hodge shot 84. Despite often losing partners, Hope steadied the innings and got useful contributions from Shamal Joseph, who soon scored 23 points.After West Indies got off to a solid start, Pakistan’s bowlers came back to level the innings. Mohammad Ali took four wickets while Mohammad Abbas took three wickets after making an immediate impact with the second new ball. Khurram Shahzad also removed Hodge early, helping Pakistan end the innings before the batsmen took control through Masood and Imam.
