Before launching the trailer, the 68-year-old actor shared his post on social media, dedicating the Partition drama, ‘Batwara 1947’ to his mother, Prakash Kaur and mothers everywhere, calling her his greatest source of love, courage and strength. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Deol linked his tribute to the movie’s themes, writing that his mother was his God, his love, her courage and strength, and that he dedicates Batwara 1947 to her and to every woman in the world. The announcement came a day before the trailer was released on July 28, adding a personal touch to the film’s Partition-era story.The ‘Ikka’ actor wrote, “Meri maa hi mera Rab hain. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions, ‘Batwara 1947’ is set against the backdrop of India’s Partition and explores love, sacrifice and courage amid some of history’s most poignant themes. The film marks the reunion of Santoshi and Deol after almost three decades of working together.The film’s second trailer, released a month after its premiere, offered a glimpse into the turmoil at the heart of the story, with Deol’s voice expressing the fear and death of Partition, and his determination to survive. Batwara 1947 features an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi as Durgavati Devi (Mai), Sunny Deol as Sikander Mirza, Preity G Zinta as Hamida Begum, Karan Deol like Javed Mirza, Ali Fazal as Habib Anwar, and Abhimanyu Singh as Yakub Khan. The film has AR Rahman’s music composed by Javed Akhtar, and has been certified for Adults Only by the Central Board of Film Certification, with a running time of 145 minutes and 34 seconds.The story is adapted from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, and follows a Muslim family that moves from Lucknow to Lahore after Partition, moving in with an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave the house she has lived in for years.
