Sonar says architects must embrace innovation and emerging technologies
PUNE: Ar. PUNE, eminent architect and co-founder of A For Architecture, said future architects must combine emerging technologies with creativity, research and experimentation to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Ajay Sonar said this while addressing architecture students at the eighth edition of ‘Brick 12 on 12’ exhibition, organized by the Brick Group of Institutes of Satish Misal Educational Foundation.“Architecture today is not just about designing buildings. It is also about creating sustainable, human-centered and environmentally responsible spaces to improve the quality of life. Young architects should cultivate innovative thinking and develop solutions that meet social and environmental needs,” Sona said.The two-day event, held at Sarathi Institute Hall on Agharkar Road, featured presentations by 12 selected students, each of whom presented their research, design concepts and architectural ideas in a 12-minute session. The program also includes an annual exhibition, alumni conference, expert lectures and panel discussions aimed at linking academic learning with industry practice.Architects, academicians, alumni and industry professionals interact with students to provide insights into career opportunities, evolving technologies and changing expectations in the construction industry. The exhibition showcases a range of innovative design ideas and research projects developed by students.Renowned architect Ar. Rajeev Vishwasrao encourages students to balance technical expertise with social responsibility and a deep understanding of local needs while emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning. Dr. Raosaheb Latpate, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, Savitribai Phule Pune University, urged students to adopt research-driven learning, leverage emerging technologies and embrace interdisciplinary thinking.The panel discussion on “Beyond Design: Strategies Behind Successful Projects” was hosted by architects Ar. Vijay Sane, Ar. Aditi Vavi, Ar. Rohit Sardesai and moderated by Ar. Kanika Agrawal shares industry perspectives on delivering successful construction projects.Dr Pooja Misal, founder director of the institute, said the initiative aims to provide a national platform to students to present their ideas in front of experts, boost their confidence and prepare them for professional practice. Principal Dr Poorva Keskar said such measures help students enhance their presentation skills, research direction and career prospects.
