Satish Shah’s family to receive his late Padma Shri today; Cousin says ‘we still haven’t come to terms with fear’ |
Veteran actor and comedian Satish Shah expected to be honored with one of the highest civilian competitions in India, the Padma Shritoday. The award will be presented posthumously by the President Dropadi Murmu In a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, paying tribute to actors who have contributed greatly Indian movie and television.
Satish Shah’s cousin describes the grief
Speaking to Hindustan Times, his cousin Arvind Mamania, who will receive the award in his stead, spoke of the grief that still lingers in the family. He said: “We have not yet come to realize the suffering (of his death). Seeing his wife every day continues to remind us of the kind of person he was.” We take care of her (Madhu Shah, Satish’s wife) and she is precious to us too.”Explaining why he was chosen to represent the late representative at the prestigious event, Arvind spoke in depth about his relationship with Shah and what led to his decision. He also said: “He was like a brother to me and his wife is unable to walk due to health reasons so he could not attend the ceremony. We wished that the honor would come earlier, he is alive but still we cannot change what has happened. My goal is that if I receive the award in his place, he will look down on us from heaven and bless us. As soon as I return to Mumbai, we will prepare a small celebration for him.”
How did Satish Shah die?
Satish Shah died in October 2025 after collapsing at his home in Mumbai during lunch. He was immediately rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where despite the best efforts of the medical team, he could not be saved. His last rites were held at Vile Parle, where many of his colleagues and friends from the industry gathered to pay their last respects to the beloved actor.
