Legendary singer S Janaki, popularly known as the “Nightingale of South India,” has died at the age of 88 at the Apollo Hospital in Mysuru after suffering from age-related complications.He was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of the morning after he began to feel unwell.According to Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru, the media was received on July 11 at 12:49 pm. “Despite regular medical treatment and careful monitoring by a multidisciplinary team, he suffered a heart attack during treatment,” the newspaper said.He was pronounced dead at 7:30 pmComplaints came from political leaders across party lines, who remember the veteran singer for his big support for Indian music.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed deep condolence over the death of legendary singer popularly known as “Gaana Kogile”.In his speech, the CM said he was deeply shocked by the news of the demise of Indian singer and multi-lingual singer S Janaki.“As long as the Kannada language exists, S Janaki’s music will remain immortal. We grew up listening to Kannada music in his voice. He infused the sweetness of the beauty of Kannada,” said Shivakumar.Recalling his contribution, he added, “Janakamma was the epitome of simplicity. Her incomparable voice will remain immortal in the culture of Karnataka forever. Although she originally hailed from Andhra Pradesh, her love for Kannada brought her to Mysuru. She has the distinction of singing more than 48,000 songs in more than 48,000 languages. With the demise of Janakamma, the world’s greatest music has fallen silent.“The CM noted that Janaki has been honored with many awards including the Padma Bhushan, as well as state awards from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other states.“I pray to God to give strength to her fans and relatives to bear the pain of Janakamma’s death,” Shivakumar said in his condolence message.YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also mourned the death of the veteran singer, describing him as one of the greatest musicians of India.“I am deeply saddened by the death of S. Janaki Amma, who hailed from Guntur. Her eternal voice has crossed many generations, touching the hearts of millions in languages. Indian music has lost one of its brightest stars, but her music will live forever. Rest in peace, Amma,” he wrote on X.KT Rama Rao (KTR) called Janaki an “eternal loss” to the world of Indian music and cinema.“The news of the demise of famous singer S. Janaki garu is very sad! Janaki garu, the legendary singer who can evoke all the nine senses with her mesmerizing voice. For nearly 60 years, he enthralled Indians by singing thousands of songs in various Indian languages. Janaki garu spent several years of her childhood living in Sirisilla, where I am representing. “Janaki garu’s death is an irreparable loss to musicians and the Indian film industry,” he wrote in a statement.“Even though he is no longer with us, his music will continue to inspire us forever. I pray for eternal peace to the soul of S. Janaki garu. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” KTR added.Born on April 23, 1938, S Janaki has recorded more than 48,000 songs in more than 20 languages over six decades, received many national and state honors, including the Padma Bhushan. His death marks the end of an era of Indian music, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to pass on from generation to generation.
