Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham write FIFA World Cup history and become the first pair… |Football News
Harry Kane Jude Bellingham and Jude Bellingham wrote their names into the FIFA World Cup record books on Saturday, becoming the first two players from the same country to score six or more goals at a single World Cup. The historic feat came in England’s dramatic 2-1 extra-time win over Norway in the quarter-finals, a result that propelled the Three Lions into the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2018. Bellingham scored twice to help England equalize and scored the decisive goal in the third minute of overtime. The two goals took the Real Madrid midfielder’s tally of goals at the 2026 World Cup to six, tying him with captain Harry Kane. The pair have now become the first teammates from the same country to score at least six goals each in a single World Cup, setting a new benchmark in the competition. Bellingham’s latest heroics came after scoring twice in England’s last-16 win over Mexico. He is now tied with Kane for third on the World Cup goalscoring list, just seven goals behind and ahead of Norway’s Erling Haaland. Lionel Messi Argentina and France’s Kylian Mbappe have eight each. England fell behind in the 36th minute after Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway the lead. However, Bellingham responded before halftime, tying the game and scoring the winner early in overtime. The victory also ended Haaland’s run of scoring in every game at the World Cup, with England’s defense denying the prolific striker a goal for the first time. England are just one win away from reaching their first World Cup final since 1966. Thomas Tuchel’s side will face Argentina in the semi-finals after the defending champions beat Switzerland later on Saturday.
