International Cricket Federation condemns Indian cricketers for bowling in ‘dangerous manner’ ahead of IND vs ENG second ODI match Cricket News
Indian fast bowler Gunoor Brar has been given a formal warning by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after breaching its Level 1 code of conduct during the first ODI against England on Tuesday. The incident occurred in England’s eighth over when Brar caught the ball after a delivery and threw it to England batsman Ben Duckett. Game officials ruled the throw “inappropriate and dangerous.” In addition to the warning, Brar had one point deducted from his disciplinary record. The charge was brought by the on-field umpire and the third and fourth umpires under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule relates to “throwing the ball in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner at or near a player during an international match”. Level 1 violations may result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, and a deduction of 1 to 2 points. If a player receives four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, these demerits will be converted into suspension points, which may result in a ban. Two pause points are equivalent to one Test or two pauses in ODIs or T20Is, depending on which format comes first. Point deductions will be removed from a player’s record after 24 months.Despite the disciplinary action, Brar impressed with the ball and took two wickets to help India beat England in a six-wicket contest to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The two teams will meet again in the second ODI in Cardiff on Thursday.“Bral admitted his guilt and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Match Referees Panel in the United Arab Emirates, so a formal hearing was not necessary,” the ICC said on Thursday.
