Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj is being downloaded, shared on WhatsApp and watched in the US after it was removed from India, reports Jasbir Jassi.

Diljit Dosanjh‘s Satluj found an overseas audience despite being removed from ZEE5 in India. Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi he said the film is still being shown in the United States and other countries, and he said it was also downloaded and shared widely on WhatsApp.Speaking to NDTV, Jassi said the film is still available to viewers outside India despite being pulled from the country’s streaming platform. He said: “Americans can watch this film, as well as viewers from all over the world.”Jassi also questioned the decision to remove the film from India, saying that he did not believe the film’s content warranted action.“I don’t understand why it was banned. There was nothing in the film that prevented it from being banned. If any government, organization, or police department believes that it shows the police are helpless, then I would say that it is not about helplessness, but about failure and bad behavior,” he said.

The film is still in the midst of controversy

Originally titled Punjab 95, Satluj is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and has been at the center of controversy for several years. The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification in 2022 but remained in the certification process for almost three years. Director Honey Trehan had earlier said that the CBFC required 127 bars before issuing licences. The film was also supposed to be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, but the screening was postponed after Indian officials objected.Satluj aired on ZEE5 on July 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Kanwaljeet Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. It was later pulled from the platform in India, though Jassi said it was still reaching overseas audiences.
