Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam on Sunday defeated Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by unanimous decision 5-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the men’s 55kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Convincing victory comes Kargil Vijay Dewaswhich made the victory even more special for the 22-year-old, who dedicated it to India’s Kargil War heroes.After the match, Jadumani said: “I dedicate the victory to the Kargil heroes. It feels great to beat Pakistan. I will perform better in the quarter-finals and win the gold medal for India.”His victory coincided with the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas Awards ceremony, when India commemorated its soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. Jadumani remained in control throughout his match against Lehman, earning votes from all five judges to win easily.The Manipuri boxer impressed in the first round with a 5-0 victory over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen. His latest win puts him in the quarterfinals, where he will compete for a spot in the semifinals on Tuesday. Victory in the quarter-finals will also guarantee him at least a bronze medal, as both Commonwealth Games boxing semi-final losers won bronze medals.Jadumani won the silver medal in the 50kg category in last year’s World Boxing Cup final, and then advanced to the 55kg category. He is currently in excellent form and has won two consecutive games.
