Hanuma Vihari has questioned Team India’s decision to continue backing Abhishek Sharma despite his poor performance in the T20I series against Zimbabwe. The former India batsman feels that the selectors applied different standards to Abhishek and Sanju Samson, especially after Samson lost his place despite performing well in big matches.Speaking on his YouTube channel, Vihari pointed out that Samson was dropped in the first few games of the T20 World Cup after poor performances, but he came back strong and became one of India’s top performers. He said: “Before the World Cup, Sanju Samson was inactive for five games and lost his place in the starting eleven. Then he made a comeback and became the player of the tournament. How many runs did Abhishek Sharma score in the same World Cup?”He also highlighted Abhishek’s recent scores, saying: “In the England series, apart from fifty, there were no scores at all. Not even in their 20s or 30s, no significant scores. Fifty points in last eight games. If you include the World Cup, there have been three and a half centuries in the past 18 games. “Vihari believes Samson proved himself with three consecutive 50s during India’s T20 World Cup win, but still lost his place in the team as youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the first choice.Questioning the selection policy, he said: “How many games has Samson played in the World Cup? Three games, three fifties. Abhishek’s highest score in five games was 16. Why is no one talking about this? When it comes to Samson, they say he is unstable. That’s fair.
