'One film': SS Rajamouli confirms 'Varanasi' is a standalone film; laughing at the 30-minute battle of Rama vs. Kumbhakarna in Mahesh Babu starrer

Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is taking some time off to shoot his blockbuster ‘Varanasi’ during his European tour. The screening of his films ‘RRR’ and ‘Eega’ took place at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. On the way to the technology class, the director talked about what was to come Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra an astrologer.

SS Rajamouli ‘Varanasi’ episodes will be a standalone film

In an interaction, as reported by Hindustan Times the director confirmed that “Varanasi” will be an independent film. Unlike ‘Baahubali‘, will not be created as a license. When asked if the film would have multiple episodes, Rajamouli gave a brief reply. He said, “One movie. Yes, one movie.”

SS Rajamouli reveals what the audience can expect

The director of ‘Baahubali’ also shared what the film will offer. He said that the film will take the audience on a great journey with legends, fantasy, and powerful emotions.He said, “You will experience the cold and the ice of Antarctica. The gods of Ramayana, natural disasters and wonderful things. That is what you will experience, but at the core of it all is the spirit of father and son. All this makes you Varanasi.”

‘Varanasi’ stars Mahesh Babu as Rudhra. Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini while Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays Kumbha. The film also marks the comeback of Priyanka Chopra Indian movie after a hiatus of eight years.Earlier, Rajamouli also revealed that Mahesh Babu will be seen as Lord Rama in one of the important scenes of the movie. Vijayendra Prasad also laughed at the 30-minute battle between Rama and Kumbhakarna.

‘Varanasi’ image

Recently in a chat with Variety, SS Rajamouli revealed that the team has completed a major part of the shoot. They will also include major events in the series. “Hopefully, by September, maybe a bit in October, we will be wrapping up the shoot,” Rajamouli said.The film has been announced to hit the screens on April 7, 2027.
