Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: ‘I won’t play against him’: India World Cup winner’s big verdict on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of India’s first T20I against England | Cricket News
New Delhi: England have finalized their starting XI for the first T20I against India with star fast bowler Jofra Archer missing out on the match at the Riverside Stadium, Chester-le-Street, Durham. The focus now shifts to India captain Shreyas Iyer, who will announce India’s starting XI at the toss. Will India continue with the same team that lost to Ireland in the T20I series? Or will teenage batting star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally make his international debut?
Srikanth names his India XI
Former India opener Kris Srikkanth has chosen the starting XI he would like to see in the first T20I against England. After India’s disappointing 0-2 series loss to Ireland, Srikkanth felt that the batsmen should consist of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube.He also backed Varun Chakravarthy to return along with Axar Patel as the two spin options, while Harshit Rana, Prince Yadav and Arshdeep Singh completed his pace attack.Kris Srikkanth’s India XI: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy.
‘Waibhav should play against Ireland’
Srikkanth believes Sooryavanshi missed a great opportunity in the second T20I against Ireland. The 15-year-old performed well in IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 237.30, helping the team to the playoffs and earning a call-up to the Indian national team.“He (Suryavanshi) should be 100 percent available for the second T20I against Ireland. Abhishek Sharma should be rested as he scored an excellent fifty in the first game. Suryavanshi should play in his place. Anyway, Abhishek Sharma is confirmed, so Vaibhav Suryavanshi might get a chance to play in the second T20I against Ireland,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Why Srikkanth doesn’t want to change now
Although he wants Sooryavanshi to play in Ireland, Srikkanth feels India should not change the starting XI at the start of the England series.“For all you know, he may have won the game because he performed well in the difficult conditions of the IPL. But now that he has not played against Ireland, I will not play him in the first two T20 games against England,” he said.
