Rancho of Aamir Khan connected with Sonam Wangchuk line

This month, Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ was already in the news, due to his relationship with Sonam Wangchuk and his hunger strike related to the loose NEET-UG line. Over the years, many viewers have believed that Aamir’s character, Phunsukh Wangdu, also known as Rancho, was inspired by Wangchuk’s work as an educational reformer in Ladakh. The idea gained momentum after Omi Vaidya, who played Chatur alongside Aamir in the film, posted a video in support of Sonam Wangchuk and confirmed that Rancho had indeed adopted her.Aamir later broke his silence on the matter during a Q&A session at the British Film Institute (BFI), putting the theory to rest. “I didn’t know about Mr Sonam when we were making the film. I saw Chatur’s video recently, and he said that. But they are wrong,” he explained, noting that neither director Rajkumar Hirani nor writer Abhijat Joshi knew about Wangchuk when the script was made. The player continued to deny the link, however, it also affected the health of Wangchuk, who was fasting for 19 days at the time. “We are all very concerned about his health and his life. We hope that it ends well. We all hope that he can fast,” he added.
