Veteran actor Shagufta Ali recently looked back on his time working with Govinda in ‘Hero No. 1′, and shares a few memories from the shooting of the film. Reminiscing about the incident, he spoke about the joy it brought, Govinda’s dedication to his work and the habit that often leads to problems during production.The actor said he enjoyed every minute of the shoot and described the experience as one of the most memorable parts of his career. According to News18, Shagufta said, “We were very happy whether Govinda or Karisma was in the group or not. We were on a paid picnic. Outdoor shooting in Ooty was good. We stayed at Mithun Da hotel. When he found out about this, he came to meet us and gave us seafood that he cooked himself.”
Govinda’s late arrival became a constant worry
During the interview, Shagufta also spoke about Govinda’s much-discussed habit of arriving at films much later than the scheduled time. He explained that although the delay affected the shooting, it did not change his opinion about him as a person or as an actor.According to Shagufta, Govinda remained one of the greatest devotees he worked with. He said that his focus on delivering a good picture often took precedence over anything else, even if the director agreed to take it.He remembered that, “Govinda used to come late on the installation here too. If the shift was at 9 o’clock, he would come at 1 or 2 o’clock in the afternoon, and he would not be there before. This was the only issue with Govinda; otherwise, he was a very good person. Kader Khan says he liked the delay
Shagufta revealed that the repeated delays often upset several people, including veteran actor Kader Khan. Although she realized that she rarely showed her frustration openly, she said that waiting for Govinda became a daily routine during the shoot.Recalling Kader Khan’s actions, he said, “Kader Khan is very angry with Govinda for coming late; others are also angry. We had to wait for him every day. Although he didn’t show his anger openly, he was worried about it.”
‘Hero no. 1’ is still a big fan
‘Hero no. 1’ became a commercial success and remains one of the most popular films from Govinda and Karisma Kapoor’s successful collaboration. On the professional front, Govinda is all set to return to the box office with Roopa, which marks his first release in seven years. Meanwhile, Shagufta Ali was last seen in the Hindi drama ’30 Hours Survival: Gauraiya Live’, which was released in April 2024.
