The actress revealed that she struggled with bulimia, an eating disorder, for years before she understood what she was dealing with. Through an insightful video and heartfelt essay, Sana explains how not knowing about an eating disorder can delay her diagnosis and recovery.

In her social media post, Sana described growing up with no real understanding of eating disorders, saying that because no one ever talked about it, she had no plan to recognize what she was going through – so she carried it “silently alone” for so long.He remembered the real fears that made up his daily life as a child, the worry of hiding food, being caught, being seen as “a big eater.” It took reading about the situation, she said, to finally come to terms with it, although she admitted the truth to herself, that what she had was bulimia, it took a long time for her to admit it.In the video, Sana recalled how anxiety about food changed her childhood and left her feeling isolated, “I wouldn’t want to hide and eat or worry that they’re going to come into my room and think I’ve eaten too much. I remember when I started reading this book, I was like…you.She admitted that accepting the diagnosis was one of the hardest parts of her journey, “I remember thinking to myself, ‘Okay, it’s some kind of eating disorder.’ I’ve never heard of that size. I wish I had heard about this issue, then I could have solved the problem.”

Sana explained that finding the word “bulimia” for the first time gave her a way to understand what was happening to her, although the shame of admitting it, even in private, took years to overcome. She said she decided to share her story because someone out there might be going through something that doesn’t have a name, and she wanted them to know that it has a name, and that “they’re not alone.”She closed her post with a note of hope, sharing how she feels she has recovered and has never felt more at home in her own body. She encourages anyone who is struggling to reach out to someone they trust or seek appropriate medical care in their community.Alongside the video, Sana shared a heartfelt story about how the lack of discussion about her eating disorder left her depressed, “I didn’t know I had an eating disorder for years. Not because I wasn’t struggling, but because I had never heard that word before. Growing up no one talked about it. There was no language for what I was going through, so I did it silently and alone for a long time.”She said that finding out about bulimia helped her finally understand her situation, “When I read about bulimia I understood for the first time what was happening to me.Sana said she chose to speak out in hopes of helping others who are facing similar challenges, “I’m sharing this because somewhere someone is carrying something that doesn’t have a name for it.The actor also shared the motivation behind his recovery as he encouraged people to seek professional help, “I’ve recovered and I’ve never felt at home in my body or my soul. If you are struggling, please talk to someone you trust or look into eating disorder support in your area. “You really need to be helped by someone who deserves to give it to you.”
