Rasika Dugal he’s known for taking on unconventional roles, although he admits there was a time when he didn’t know where his career was going. While ‘Mirzapur’ made her a household name, Rasika says that ‘Manto’ helped her through one of the toughest phases of her career. In a recent interview, she opened up about the roles that changed her life, the tough time between ‘Kissa’ and ‘Manto’, why she is still open to auditions, and how one text message landed her the coveted role of Bina Tripathi.

Talking about the project which she sees as her true success, Rasika said that while ‘Mirzapur’ reached the masses, ‘Manto’ came at a time when it was most needed. Speaking to India Today, he said, “Something where people saw me differently, and something that traveled and reached a lot of people, was Mirzapur. But I think the one who pulled me out of the fall I was in was Manto. There was a real difference between Qissa and Manto, and there wasn’t much to come. There was a lot of resistance at the time, which was difficult. That was the time when I asked myself, ‘Then where do I come from? Now where do I go? Which door should I knock on and who should I ask?’

He also recalled how his role in “Mirzapur” was almost over. Although he knew the Creator Karan AnshumanHe hesitated to take her to work. “For Mirzapur, I knew Karan Anshuman, who was the creator and one of the directors of Part 1. I knew him well, and someone told me that he was producing the show. I said, ‘If Karan wanted to cast me, he would have called me.’ My friend said, ‘Why don’t you just text him a reminder?’ I said, ‘I don’t want it to be difficult for him.’ When your friends send you messages saying, ‘Role de do,’ it’s a little difficult to get out of. But I said, well, I’ll send him a message,” the actor said.The actress added, “I got a response within a minute saying, ‘Sure, let’s talk.’ When I met him he said, ‘I didn’t ask you because you were cast opposite Nawaz in Manto.’ I thought maybe you didn’t want to make a slideshow. Maybe you just want to do movies.’ I said, ‘Are you crazy? Yes, I would do this. When I read that part, I said, ‘Wow, thank you.’ And I almost panicked. It was so contrary to my appearance that I thought, ‘You log beech mein apna mind na badal de.’“Sometimes when I go to the office to read it, I’m like, ‘Sh**, I hope they don’t think they can’t do it.’ I was so scared if I could pull it off. “
