The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made cricket a compulsory part of training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. Players participating in long-term training camps must now perform 40 minutes of racquet exercise every other day as part of their daily fitness routine. The move is designed to improve agility, reflexes, endurance and defensive skills. The decision was taken by senior selector and high performance director Aqib Javed, who believes padel can help players become fitter while making training sessions more enjoyable.“Many of our players already play cricket regularly but have to travel long distances to their hometowns for limited pitches. We have now constructed a cricket pitch facility for the players at the NCA,” Aqib said, according to news agency PTI.He explained that cricket is a sport that combines elements of tennis and squash and is physically demanding despite the smaller surface. According to him, it helps improve athleticism, endurance and overall fitness levels, making it a useful addition to cricket training.Aqib said the cricket board wants the National Cricket Academy to be a place where players can develop their game comprehensively. Apart from mandatory cricket training every other day, the board also plans to add more sports and recreational facilities.PCB intends to build basketball courts as well as an indoor hall featuring snooker and other games. Aqib also revealed that the academy has installed an artificial intelligence bowling machine as part of modernization training efforts. With these additions, the cricket board hopes to create a better environment for cricketers to improve their fitness, improve their skills and prepare themselves more effectively for international cricket.
