According to the rules, a designated player may substitute for another player during a match and may bat or bowl to complete his full quota of four overs without the substituted player taking further part in the match.However, after Kandy Royals elected to bat first, the team’s coach reportedly told Afridi during the match that his name did not appear in the official team sheet as a designated impact player due to an analyst error.

He immediately reported the matter to an official from the tournament’s anti-corruption department.Reports, including by Geo News Pakistan, said the left-arm pacer was frustrated after being left out without any explanation and was preparing to leave the tournament and return to Pakistan.The incident later came to the attention of the match referee. Team officials and league organizers apologized to Afridi and convinced him to continue playing instead of leaving.
