Release of VijayThe movie ‘Jana Nayagan’ has entered another milestone following the recent changes in the censor certification and theatrical release plans. The much awaited film has been in the limelight for months due to delays. Recent reports suggest that the developers are now negotiating several demands before closing in on the final release date. The film’s release process has been complicated by the screening process and negotiations that involve distributors and promoters.
CBFC recommends changes to ensure ‘Jana Nayagan’
According to Filmibeat, a Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave ‘Jana Nayagan’ an ‘A’ certificate for violence, politics, and religion. The CBFC panel, which has several members and the chief examiner, is said to have recommended some changes, disrupting the discussion, and wants to change the name known to Priyamani, because it is said to be similar to that of another government official. The report also states that manufacturers are expected to make changes before re-use under Rule 33. It is also said that the final version will also include the title card “The Honorable Chief Minister” along with Vijay’s name, apart from a slight change in the music and the farewell song at the end.
OTT platforms and vendors differ on the release date
The report also said that discussions are underway regarding the release date of the film. While the promoters want it to be released on July 24 to avoid conflict with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and to allow more time for promotion and theater preparation, the film’s OTT partner is said to want a theatrical release on July 16. So it is said that it is the platform’s plan to release the film on the weekend of August 15 Independence Day after completing its theatrical window. The producer is expected to make the final call after considering both sides.
Vijay’s farewell film
‘Jana Nayagan’ is directed by H. Vinoth and is announced to be Vijay’s last film, as he has changed his views on politics.
