Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has made a spectacular start at the box office. The actor’s last theatrical release opened to huge audiences in India and overseas.According to Sacnilk’s preliminary estimates, ‘Jana Nayagan’ collected 41 crores in India on its opening day.The movie was shown in 13,067 shows on its first day. With a domestic collection of Rs 48.27 crore and an overseas collection of Rs 30 crore, the film has reached Rs 78.27 crore.
‘Jana Nayagan’ earns 41 crore nett in India
‘Jana Nayagan’ collected 41 crore nett in India on Day 1. The Tamil version topped the collection with Rs 36.50 crore, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 2.75 crore. The Hindi version earned Rs 1.75 crore.The film registered an Indian audience of 41.6% in all languages. Tamil remained the strongest market for the film.
Tamil is the most populous language
The Tamil version sent 68.31% audience on Thursday. Morning shows opened at 73.85%, followed by 62.46% in the afternoon. Evening performance stood at 63.62%, while night shows rose to 73.31%.The Telugu version recorded 27.81% audience, with the highest response for late night shows at 33.58%.The Hindi version reported a total population of 14.60%. The movie saw slow growth during the day, ending with a 20.33% occupancy in the nighttime show.
Tamil Nadu leads in state wise offerings
Tamil Nadu was the biggest contributor to the film’s opening day, making Rs 24 crore. Karnataka followed with Rs 11.25 crore, while Kerala added Rs 5.52 crore. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 4 crore and all India contributed Rs 3.50 crore.Together, these markets helped the film reach a total of Rs 48.27 crore. Overseas markets also added Rs 30 crore, taking the worldwide total to Rs 78.27 crore.
H. Vinoth directs Vijay in his last directorial debut
Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ stars Thalapathy Vijay as Vetri Kondan, a fearless police officer. He is determined to honor the promise by training his daughter Viji, who played opposite Mamitha Baiju, to become a soldier. However, his tragic history makes the journey difficult.The story also features John Himler, played by Bobby Deol, who arrives in India with the intention of starting a riot. The conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist drives most of the film’s story.
ETimes review praises Vijay’s performance
