Speaking of Amitabh BachchanAs an example, Jaaved said commercial pressure often prevents even the biggest stars from exploring unconventional roles. He also reflected on the generation of actors, the issue of the press, and why he still feels he has more to do as an actor after more than four decades in the industry.The 63-year-old looked back on his long journey in films and discussed how Bollywood and the audience have changed over the years.Sharing his views on the current crop, Jaaved said that each generation brings its own pros and cons. Although he admired the young players for their professionalism and determination, he felt that they were often impatient. “I think they’re young, they’re fast and they’re not receiving well and all that. The good thing is that they’re professional, they’re very mature, they’re focused on what they want. So yes, there are minuses and pluses to this,” he said in an interview with HT City. According to him, such differences are natural because each generation approaches work differently.Jaaved also explained the film industry’s tendency to repeatedly cast successful actors. Although he said he was lucky enough to avoid being in the same picture, he admitted that success in business often leads to future decisions.“I can’t say I’ve been stereotyped. I’ve done it all. I’ve played a bad guy, I’ve played crazy boys, big movies, this, that and more.” I have done everything. What tends to happen with anything that works well, people start approaching you with the idea, that this works for them. This applies even to big stars because when you become an object, they don’t let you. That is a sad place to be.“To illustrate his point, Jaaved mentioned Amitabh Bachchan, saying that even the legendary actor faced a time when commercial considerations hindered his choice.“There was a phase when nobody was bigger than Mr Bachchan. There was a phase when (former actor) Mr (Amitabh) Bachchan couldn’t do anything else because it didn’t work. Again, he was limited because the commercial factors didn’t allow him to move. Now he’s doing something different that he, as an actor, obviously allowed him to do.”Reflecting on his career, Jaaved said he has deliberately avoided appearing on screen regularly, believing that maintaining variety and distribution of work will help him live longer.“As an actor, although I have done a lot of work. But you have to separate yourself. The moment you are satisfied with yourself, then it becomes a problem because if you have done everything. But by the grace of God, I managed it well. I have played a bad guy, I have played crazy boys, I have also done big movies. However, I feel that there is a lot left to explore in me.”
