‘I didn’t make ‘Kaththi’ or ‘Sarkar’ for Vijay Sir’s politics,’ AR Murugadoss ends years of speculation |
After years Kaththi and Sarkar became the subject of political debate, director AR Murugadoss responded to speculations that have been circulating for some time surrounding the films. Many believed the two Vijay Players are designed to boost the player’s reputation before entering politics. However, Murugadoss he has now strongly denied those claims, saying that the films were not made for political purposes. He said that all these projects were written to tell meaningful stories that reflected public concerns, and not to prepare Vijay for a future in public life.
AR Murugadoss he explains in his political films with Vijay
Speaking in a YouTube chat with Sudhir Sreenivasan, AR Murugadoss pointed out that the documentary has nothing to do with Vijay’s political agenda. “I didn’t write ‘Kaththi’ keeping in mind the political goals of Vijay sir. I didn’t make ‘Sarkar’ with that intention in mind,” he said. The director explained that the idea of Kaththi was with him from the beginning of his career. “After ‘Ramana,’ I wanted to make another film about people and strong dialogues. According to the situation at that time and Vijay Sir’s opinion, I made ‘Kaththi’ as a completely different film from ‘Thuppakki’,” he added. According to AR Murugadoss, the stories were inspired by the issues of the time and not the political agenda of the future.
Social themes, not political agendas, shaped the films
AR Murugadoss reflects on how ‘Ramana’ has changed in his filmmaking journey. This film inspired him to tell stories that had fun and powerful social messages, a style he followed in his later films ‘Kaththi.’ ‘Thuppakki’ was entertaining, ‘Kaththi’ was about farmers and land rights and ‘Sarkar’ was about elections and governance. The director said that the course is important to the people and is related to the issues I want to talk about, not that it is related to Vijay’s political future.
The old movies got a new meaning after Vijay’s political success
After his successful political journey, Vijay is now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and many viewers have started watching his old films and political views. Murugadoss understands why people connect with each other these days, but says films should be seen in the context of how they were made. Its description ends years of speculation and motivation that ‘Kaththi’ and ‘Sarkar’ were treated as crowd-driven cinema. Many years after their release, the films are still a popular story, proving that their subject matter and plot affect people.
