Southport (UK): Ryan Fox surged into the clubhouse lead after shooting a record-tying 62 in the third round of the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club after just one shot inside the cut after two rounds.Fox was one of the first to finish on moving day as the leaderboard began to resemble a game of Snakes and Ladders, with positions changing dramatically every few minutes. Southport native Tommy Fleetwood, seeking his first major, went bogey-free through 11 holes and was 3 under, moving him to 7 under and tied for second with Sam Burns and Jackson Suber, one shot behind Fox.Less than a day after Fox’s 62, Lucas Herbert and Burns shot a record-tying 62 on a dry, toasty course near Birkdale that nonetheless produced a string of low scores. Fox’s 8-under round was easily the best score of the day, but a series of scores between 66 and 68 kept this Open very wide open.Among them, Sahith Theegala was the only one of the three Indian players on the field to advance through 36 holes. After his first Open appearance at St. Andrews in 2022, Tigala failed to advance in the next three editions of the tournament. This week, however, he secured his place in the weekend with ground balls before shooting two 68s in the third round.
