The latest case was filed after Ilaiyaraaja alleged that his famous song ‘Pothuvaaga En Manasu Thangam’ from Rajinikanth starrer ‘Murattu Kaalai,’ was used in GV Prakash Kumar’s film ‘Happy Raj’ without permission. After hearing the matter, the Madras High Court restrained the makers of the song from using the song in the film, as reported by Polimer. The order came almost three months after ‘Happy Raj’ was released in theaters on March 27, making it a legal success even though the film had already finished playing. The verdict, yet another victory for Ilaiyaraaja in his fight against copyright infringement of his music, sends a clear message that due respect should be given to the Creator.
‘Happy Raj’ has a strong ensemble cast
Directed by Maria Raja Elanchezian, ‘Happy Raj’ stars GV Prakash Kumar Along with Sri Gouri Priya. The film also marks the comeback of actor Abbas after a long break from cinema. ‘Happy Raj’ is the journey of a young man, Anandraj, named Happy Raj (GV Prakash), who struggles with loneliness due to the shame he faces from his family. He moves to Bengaluru to start over. There he meets Kavya (Sri Gouri Priya) and gradually falls in love. The film combines romance and emotional drama, exploring themes of identity, respect and acceptance. The court’s decision also brought to the forefront the issue of the use of Ilaiyaraaja’s popular song, adding another chapter to the composer’s copyright battle, just as viewers received ‘Happy Raj’ recently.
