After the highly successful finale of the eighth season, ‘The Rookie’ Season 9 began filming last week. The band entertained the crowd in the Indigo Ballroom at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Star director Nathan Fillion, who was present at the famous festival with his friends, is planning to join this Monday, while the rest started filming without him last week.During an appearance at Comic-Con, creator Alexi Hawley explained in detail the upcoming episodes and what to expect from them. ‘The Rookie’ Season 9: Production and expected release date
Hawley revealed that the upcoming season will be bigger, full of twists and turns and unexpected storylines. “It’s two episodes, so it won’t all be resolved in one episode; there’s a lot going on,” he said, on Deadline, before adding, “I think it’s great for what we do; it’s high, it’s exciting. It’s a love story; it’s funny and unexpected. I just want everything to wait until January.”” The last part that mentions ‘January’ actually says that the release will be scheduled for January, following the schedule of the last few seasons. According to Collider, Hawley confirmed that ‘The Rookie’ Season 9 “started filming on Tuesday last week. Also, the series ‘The Rookie: North’ will begin production in August. The upcoming season begins with a murder. “We’re going to start that way, find out where they are, and find out how we can get them back, and whatever obstacles we can put on them,” the creator told Deadline in May. At Saturday’s meeting, Alexi Hawley joined the cast, including Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Nathan Fillion, Richard T. Jones, Alyssa Diaz, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Jenna Dewan, Lisseth Chavez, and Deric Augustine, and fans were surprised by Jay Ellis, the lead of the upcoming spinoff.
