Commonwealth Games 2026 live updates: India looking to add another win in lawn bowls as Rupa Rani and Pinki return to action
Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh boosted India’s medal hopes with a third consecutive win in the women’s pairs team event. They fought hard against Tonga to remain unbeaten in Group B alongside England, and the race for the knockout stages remains balanced. However, Putul Sonowal’s journey suffered a setback when he lost to unbeaten Malaysian Izzat Shamil Zukpur in the men’s singles event. The defeat left the Indians second in the group and relying on other results to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
India celebrated another positive result in boxing as Sachin Shivaji defeated Canada’s Keoma Ahmadi to advance to the last 16 in the men’s 60kg category. His victory was an encouraging start for the Indian boxing team, following Jadumani Singh’s first-round success.
The rhythmic gymnastics team finished fifth in its division, narrowly missing out on medal contention. Despite the team’s disappointment, Olympians Pranati Nayak and Protisha Samantha are still vying for a spot in the individual vault finals.
Indian swimmers Aryan Nehra and Dhakshan Shashikumar failed to reach the men’s 400m freestyle final, while the women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team suffered a heavy defeat to Wales in their first event.
Jandu Singh won a bronze in the para-weightlifting event, with just one medal so far, and India now turns its attention to a busy Sunday schedule. Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu will start her weightlifting career as one of India’s top gold medal hopefuls. Rishikanta Singh and M Raja will also participate in the medal event, while Preeti Pawar, Aditya Pratap Yadav and Jadumani Singh will participate in the boxing event. India will also compete in swimming, rhythmic gymnastics and bowls as it looks to build momentum and increase its medal tally at the Olympics.
