Acclaimed British songwriter Asteryth Sloane, whose music was performed at various concert venues across the UK, has died. Sloane was 26 years old at the time of her passing. Sloane’s music has been celebrated and performed by some of the biggest bands in the UK, including VOCES8, the Paraorchestra, the BBC Singers and the BBC Concert Orchestra, to name but a few.

The Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Philharmonic Society took to their Instagram accounts to share the news of his death with the world. Sharing their photo in a post, the RNCM wrote, “We are deeply saddened to learn that songwriter and RNCM alum Asteryth Sloane has passed away at the age of 26.” The post also detailed their education and degree, and discussed their “unique methods and skills.“The caption also read, “Asteryth’s music is known for its responses to the beauty and fragility of the living world, as well as familiar themes of spirituality.” Their musical work explores the power of listening to bring us into an intimate and ethical relationship with sound, and the freedom of sound and sound. The singer became well known for her award-winning music, and despite being blinded at the age of two, she continued to have a successful career. Sloane has received many honors for their work, including the Cambridge Young Composer of the Year in 2016, the top category of the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ competition in 2018 for their piece ‘Elegy for Aylan’, and a commission from the Royal Philharmonic Society to record the 5th anniversary of Classic FM.Their writings often explore themes of nature, spirituality, philosophy, and humanity. Beyond his musical talents, Sloane also dabbled in other streams and was a renowned researcher and psychotherapist.He graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Composition) with the highest honors, and also holds a Master’s in Composition and Musicology. Sloane also holds an MSc in Counseling and Psychotherapy from Keele University and was a registered researcher for a PHD in Poetry and Ecolinguistics at the University of Gloucestershire.
