Thalapathy Vijay is all set to bid farewell to cinema through ‘Jana Nayagan,’ directed by H. Vinoth. Ahead of the release, ETimes readers can also watch some of Vijay’s iconic films that showcase the qualities that made him one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema. If you are planning a Vijay marathon before ‘Jana Nayagan’, these movies are definitely worth having on your watch list.
‘Kathy’
Released in 2014 and directed by AR Murugadoss, ‘Kathi’ remains one of the defining films of Vijay’s career. The actor is seen in two roles and beyond his commercial interests, the film deals with issues affecting farmers, land grabbing and corruption. Another feature of the film was Anirudh’s powerful music. After ‘Thuppakki,’ Ani gave yet another heartwarming song in ‘Kathi,’ which is one of the best things that brings more to Tollywood.
‘Thalaivaa’
Directed by AL Vijay, ‘Thalaivaa’ explores the journey of Vishwa, a man whose life changes when unexpected events force him to embrace leadership. The film balances action, emotional drama and family relationships while following the evolution of its central character. Apart from the set pieces, Vijay acted in a raw and authentic way, compared to his other commercial films. Thalaivaa’s unique blend of drama and versatility, makes it one of the favourites.
‘Mersal’
Now comes the most commercial song ever made in Tollywood: ‘Mersal’.Atlee’s directorial, which released in 2017, features Vijay in three different roles. The story combines action, emotion and humor as it tells the story of medical treatment. The film was also noted for its epic visuals, chart-topping music and several memorable twists. From the blockbuster trailer to the full movie, ‘Mersal’ is the epitome of what a cinematography should be. Atlee knows how to portray Vijay on screen with all his passion and character. The same techniques were used in SRK’s ‘Jawan’, which received positive reviews from the Hindi belt.
‘Sarkar’
Vijay also teamed up with AR Murugadoss for ‘Sarkar’, a political drama that revolves around elections, leadership and the power of ordinary citizens. The actor portrays a successful businessman who unexpectedly finds himself challenging the entire political system.Although ‘Sarkar’ is often regarded as the weakest film in the AR Murugadoss–Vijay partnership, it still conveys a message about the importance of voting carefully.
