Jaaved Jaaferi speaks on the Pranit More line; says the group has grown ‘intolerant’ of jokes | Hindi Movie News
Javed Jaaferi has extended his support to stand-up comedian Pranit More, who is currently at the center of a controversy surrounding his comedy. Responding to the controversy, the actor said that actors tend to be “simple” when people get angry. Speaking about how the audience’s interest has changed over time, the actor said that comedy is now being judged by a section of people who do not make up half of the population.
Jaaved Jaaferi on comedians being ‘easy targets’
In an interview with India Today, Jaaved stood by Pranit’s right to sing, stressing that comedy ultimately depends on their choice and that the audience has the right to join the show or skip it. “He’s a private person. He’s funny. People can choose to buy a ticket to his show or not. But what happens is that actors and actresses become soft. Even though there are so many problems around us, people sweep the things under the carpet and look for the simple things because he is funny. They’re always easy people to follow,” he said.
Jaaved Jaaferi says parents should monitor the content, no restrictions are needed
The actor also addressed the questionable concerns, saying that the responsibility should be on parents to monitor what their children watch instead of forcing them to block shows. “You control your children. If you don’t want them to watch something, that’s your responsibility. You decide what they experience on social media and on the Internet. There are all kinds of things on the Internet, even porn. Can we stop all of this? No. People should decide for themselves,” he added.
Jaaved Jaaferi says people are crying ‘intolerance’
The ‘Dhamaal 4’ actor also observed that people have become intolerant. He added, “The society has become very intolerant in our country now, and everything is going well. This was not happening in the 1990s or 2000s. Movies had humor, people laughed at things, and the audience enjoyed it. If I dressed like a sadhu or a mullah in an old comic, no one was offended. Today, the same thing is immediately called offensive.“
Jaaved Jaaferi against Pranit More’s public sector
Jaaferi also spoke about the criticism that Pranit faced on his social media platform, saying that jokes are often judged without looking at what happened. He said that maybe the people who watched the show laughed at the joke at the time, but they lost their peace afterwards, while most of the people who criticized them came from people who are not there but are not quick to judge. He said: “Those who oppose are usually outsiders who are very judgmental.” Everyone becomes a moral authority, a religious authority. People say, ‘This doesn’t happen in our religion,’ but there are many religions that don’t have a problem with things like this.
About PranitMore debate
The row started after a video of Pranit More standing in Gurugram went viral on social media. In the video, a 23-year-old member of the audience, Himanshu Jangra, talked about spending Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani a day and said he hoped for a “return” of the money, a statement that drew widespread criticism online. Pranit also got angry for laughing and let Jangra continue the role of working people. Amid the growing controversy, Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra released a video apologizing for their statement.
