New Delhi: One of the greatest all-rounders in cricket history and former West Indies captain Garfield Sobers passed away at the age of 89 on Friday. His death was confirmed by his son Daniel.There are only 10 days left before Sobers’ 90th birthday. Widely regarded as one of the finest cricketers in the history of the game, Sobers represented the West Indies from 1954 to 1974.

legendary career

Sobers played 93 Test matches, scoring 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78, including 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries.Sobers is a left-arm fast medium bowler who also took 235 Test wickets. He also played one one-day international, taking one wicket.

record-breaking feat

One of the defining moments of Sobers’ career came in 1958 when he scored an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan. The innings marked the highest individual score in Test cricket in 36 years, before fellow West Indies Brian Lara surpassed it with 375 against England in 1994.Sobers also made first-class cricket history in 1968 when, while representing Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan, he became the first batsman to hit six sixes in a single over.
