National Award winning actor Vikrant Massey has opened up about the discrimination she faced while transitioning from television to Bollywood. Recalling the early days of his film career, the ’12th Fail’ star revealed that many doubted his talent because he came from TV. Reflecting on his 20-year journey, Vikrant also spoke about the impact of public opinion, the lasting impact of ‘Balika Vadhu’, and his gratitude for the unwavering support of the audience.Speaking to IANS, the actor recalled how some people doubted his talent because of the way he watched television. Massey said, “When I came from television to film, a lot of people used to say, ‘He’s a TV actor, what’s he going to do? He doesn’t know how to work.’Vikrant also shared his thoughts on judging people based on their ability or financial status. According to the actor, a person’s ability is determined by talent and effort and not where they come from.Massey said, “And not just TV, I think if you come from any social background, that doesn’t decide if you’re good or not. It depends on your ability if you’re good or not. So I don’t believe at all that where you come from or where you are.”The actor emphasized that he never believed that his characters or history should define what a person can do.

Looking back on his career, Vikrant was grateful for the support he received from the audience. He added that he is lucky that viewers continue to watch his past and recent works after more than two decades.Expressing his thoughts, Vikrant said: “I think my journey has been blessed. It’s been 20-22 years. We sit at home and talk about how many years it’s been. I’m so grateful. I’m so grateful that even after so many years, people are taking their time to see my past work. They’re spending their money to see what I’m doing. I’m really, really grateful.”The actor added that such appreciation motivates him to continue working with sincerity.Talking about what keeps him going, he said, “This is the only thing that gives you the courage to go out there and give back to people through your stories or whatever you can do that you can’t do.”
‘Balika Vadhu’ still holds a special place
Vikrant also reflected on the enduring popularity of Balika Vadhu, saying people continue to recognize him for his work even after nearly two decades. The actor also said that many viewers also watch the show online, which he considers very beneficial.Over the years, Vikrant has successfully transitioned from television to films, gaining acclaim for performances such as A Death in the Gunj, 12th Fail, Sector 36, and the Haseen Dillruba franchise. He was recently honored by National Award for his performance in 12th Fail.
‘Musafir Cafe’ is set for release
On the professional front, Vikrant will also be seen in ‘Musafir Cafe’, a romantic drama series directed by Ruchir Arun and produced and written by Sharanya Rajgopal.’ ‘Musafir Cafe’ is scheduled to air on OTT on July 24.
