‘Shararat’ singer Madhubanti Bagchi on the Bollywood trend of typecasting singers, ‘They put you in a box’ | Hindi Movie News
Madhubanti Bagchi says that after ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ became popular, she made sure not to stick to the same songs, and feels that every artist should create their own style. He also thinks that Bollywood should use more singers instead of multitasking Arijit Singh alone.
Madhubanti Bagchi’s tracks continue to do well
Although Bagchi’s latest release, “Jab Talak” from ‘Cocktail 2’, is gaining popularity, old songs like “Shararat” from ‘Dhurandhar’ (2025), along with several of his earlier songs, have not lost their popularity. “It’s definitely satisfying,” he says mid-afternoon, referring to the industry’s tendency to use graphics and his efforts to protect his creativity in a business that relies heavily on a select few words.
Madhubanti Bagchi by rejecting similar advertisements
When asked if he was satisfied with similar music after the success of the song, and how difficult it was to leave the trap, he said, “It was not difficult to reject such advertisements. These companies seem to put you in a box and then overuse you until you do something. Then they put you in another box. Before Aaj Ki Raat, my Heeramandi. [Nazariya Ki Maari] came and everyone saw me as an old singer. When Aaj Ki Raat was released, people jumped from ‘She is a classical singer’ to ‘She sings dance numbers’. As artists, we have to think about the story we are going to present to the audience. Why should I stop myself? [one genre]?”.
Madhubanti Bagchi on recording Jab Talak
Talking about how “Jab Talak” started, he said, “Jab Talak was shot after the first teaser of the film was shot. I am happy with the way the female part has been made. Pritamda is magical. Who doesn’t want to work with her? It is a dream for every artist to sing a song she has composed.”
