However, speaking to Mid-day, the director confirmed that the comic only elaborates on the film’s story and character, rather than reducing the actor to the spotlight. Appreciating Anjali’s performance and saying that he was very happy with the episode, Kumar expressed confidence that the audience will watch the entire cast of the drama, which is star-studded. Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsiand Jaaved Jaaferi, will understand the creative intent behind the scenes.
Indra Kumar responds to Anjali Anand’s criticism
Ever since ‘Dhamaal 4’ hit the screens on Friday, the film has been facing jokes about Anjali Anand’s weight gain. Indra Kumar, however, believes that viewers will understand what is going on once they watch the entire film. “I really liked Anjali, and she was very happy with the role. She did a great job. Comedy has a story within the story and the character gives meaning to the comedy instead of diminishing her,” he says.

The filmmaker has had one straightforward goal: to create a good story that works as family entertainment. For him, comedy remains the most appropriate genre to achieve this. As audiences return to theaters in ever-increasing numbers, they see a new appetite for light and fun movies. As reported in Mid-day, the director said, “We had a great lesson. So I thought we should do it. And if you can laugh with the family, then it’s a good way,” speaking during the fourth episode of Dhamaal released in cinemas on July 10. Even before his release, the heat he received from the industry only boosted his confidence. “Everybody wanted it. I’ve got feedback from all the companies this time.”

Kumar says the enduring appeal of ‘Dhamaal’ films is the strong chemistry they share with their cast. He especially appreciates Devgn’s deadpan comic timing and the effort to draw between the actors who come on screen. “Ajay, who is polite and ready to match, can do comedy effortlessly. He is one of the best actors we know. Today, he can do both Tanhaji (2020) and Dhamaal, followed by Singham, Shaitaan. [2024]and Drishyam very freely. It is a great quality. Ajay’s versatility is amazing,” said the director.
