Aamir Khan has vehemently denied that he is the “ambassador of love jihad,” saying that religion has never had an impact on his family’s marriages. The actor, who married his former partner Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony registered on July 5, said that all his marriages were consanguineous and none of his partners converted to their religion. His statement comes as his marriage to Gauri has sparked political and religious controversy online.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle’s Subhash K Jha, Aamir confirmed that interfaith marriages have been a part of his family and stressed that religious conversion was not the nature of those relationships.In response to the mistakes, he said: “The truth is that our family is very united. My cousin Mansoor married a Christian.”The ‘Taare Zameen Par’ actor also clarified that neither his current wife Gauri Spratt nor his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, converted to Islam after their marriage. “Gauri, Kiran or Reena didn’t change their religion, as we had civil marriages. Gauri is not a Hindu at all, she is a Christian, and there is no real Christian. Life is becoming more interesting after a while.”For the uninitiated, Aamir Khan was married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002 before marrying Kiran Rao in 2005. The couple divorced in 2021 but continue to raise their child together.

The actor’s latest comments come days after his marriage to Gauri Spratt became the subject of controversy. According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, is said to have issued a fatwa against Aamir for his interfaith marriage, saying it is not permissible under his interpretation of Sharia because Gauri is not a Muslim. In a video circulating online, the priest said, “Muslim is the mother of liye, Iman walon ke liye, Gair Muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.“The religious leaders also said that a Muslim man who marries a non-Muslim woman has sinned and added that those who refuse to admit that they are sinners will answer to Allah. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan has not reacted to the priest’s statement, and his team has also remained silent.
