India vs England 1st ODI live score: India hopes returns of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli can spark a comeback against confident England
After a disappointing T20I season, the focus now turns to the 50-over series, with the return of several senior players expected to strengthen the visiting side.
The biggest boost for the Indian team is the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, who are India’s three most experienced players in ODIs.
As India begins building its squad for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, their return brings a nearly full squad for captain Shubman Gill.
Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings again. The duo averages 60.9 in ODIs and will look to give India a good start.
Gill comes into this series in excellent form. He has scored 373 runs in five ODI innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including one and three fifties.
Virat Kohli is also back with a big milestone on the horizon.
The first ODI at Edgbaston will mark his 300th ODI innings, while another good series could see him cross the 15,000 ODI mark.
The former India captain has also performed well in the tournament, averaging 123 runs in the last seven ODI innings since the start of 2025.
KL Rahul, who scored 139 runs in India’s previous ODI series against Afghanistan, is expected to keep wickets while batting in the middle overs. Shreyas Iyer will return to his favored spot at No. 4.
