A film producer It’s Ashwin has broken his silence on the objections drawn by Karna in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. The director responded after social media users questioned the meaning of the film about the iconic and epic hero. Nag Ashwin mentioned Mahabharata and urged the viewers to wait till the sequel before judging the whole story.
Social media controversy erupts after ‘Lenin’
The online discussion got a lot of buzz following the theatrical release of Akhil Akkine’s ‘Lenin’. Among the reactions of the film, one social media user praised Pramod Panju’s performance as Karna and said that the character should have been portrayed in the same way in Kalki 2898 AD. The latter also criticized Nag Ashwin’s interpretation of Karna and questioned the climax of the film. As the controversy grew, Nag Ashwin chose to give a direct reply.
Director mentions Mahabharata
Responding to the criticism, Nag Ashwin shared the English version of Bibek Debroy’s Mahabharata. He also quoted a passage from the Drona Vadha Parva. Lord Krishna talks about Karna while talking to Arjuna in this verse. The filmmaker defended his interpretation by writing, “These are Sree Krishna’s words to Arjuna in Drona Vadha Parva. Please read Mahabharata. I recommend Bibek Debroy’s Bible. Or Google how many times Krishna praised Karna to Arjuna. I have great respect for our history. I know what I am doing. Wait for Part 2”.
‘Wait for Part 2’
Apart from defending the film, Nag Ashwin’s response also gave a little tease about the sequel. Although the director has not revealed any plot details, his last sentence ‘Wait for Part 2,’ has increased the interest for the sequel.

Work on ‘Kalki 2’ is progressing in Hyderabad. The sequel continues the story that was introduced in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and is expected to focus on the adventures of Ashwatthama and Karna. The first film had Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in lead roles. Reports say that ‘Kalki 2’ is eyeing a December 2027 theatrical release and expectations are high.
