The second week of July brings an exciting series of South Indian films. From sports dramas and fantasy to dark comedy and industry news, viewers have a number of topics to choose from and let’s take a look at some of them.
‘Peddy’
One of the biggest digital releases this week is ‘Peddi’, starring Ram Charan in the lead. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the drama will begin airing on Netflix from July 9, including its Malayalam version.Set in 1994, the story follows a talented young cricketer from a remote village in Andhra Pradesh as he fights against obstacles as he chases his sporting dreams. Along with Ram Charan, the film stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, Viji Chandrasekhar and Shruti Haasan in the spotlight.ETimes gave the film 3 out of 5 stars. The review said, “Buchi Babu Sana is to be commended for trying to connect the themes of society, ambition and sports. Although the film clearly shows the problems faced by the unscrupulous, its treatment of the female characters leaves much to be desired. Janhvi Kapoor’s character has been reduced to an ornamental presence.
‘Mollywood Times’ and ‘Sing Geetham’ join the promotional list
Now available on Disney + Hotstar, ‘Mollywood Times’ stars Naslen as Vineeth Madhavan, an aspiring filmmaker determined to make it in the Malayalam film industry. Directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, the film explores the pain, inconsistencies and real-life challenges faced by newcomers trying to achieve their film dreams.Meanwhile, veteran actor Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is back with ‘Sing Geetham’. The film will be released on Netflix on July 9, 2026. It marks the director’s 61st film and is set in the fictional kingdom of Kuberapura. The cast includes newcomers Ayaan, Ahilya Bamroo and Shalini Kondepudi, while Devi Sri Prasad has composed the song. Vijay Deverakonda also plays a major role in the film.
‘Parimala And Co.’
The family entertainer ‘Parimala And Co.’, starring Jayaram and Urvashi, is making its digital debut again this week. Directed by Pandiraaj, the dark comedy entertainer combines humor, suspense and family moments.The film will go on air on ZEE5 from July 10. Confirming the release, the platform wrote, “A great family entertainer with twists and turns is on the way… #ParimalaAndCo Premieres on July 10 on Tamil ZEE 5.”Along with the lead, the film also stars Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Ananthika Sanilkumar in important roles.
‘Balti’ finally gets its OTT
After months of waiting, Shane Nigam’s “Balti” is finally going OTT. The Malayalam drama is set against the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border and combines sports, crime and emotional family relationships in an action-packed story.The film will premiere on Sony LIV from July 10 and will be shown in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.Announcing the release, the site shared, “Get ready for the action! #Balti is streaming from 10th July exclusively on Sony LIV.” The film was released in theaters on September 25, 2025.
