Indian Institute of Management Bangalore unveils phased plan for Indonesia campus following PM Modi’s announcement


Prime Minister Modi announced the establishment of the first overseas campus of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in Malang, Indonesia

BENGALURU: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will set up a branch in Indonesia, IIM-B said it will offer courses in two phases, first as a short-term Executive Education Program (EEP) in the first phase and then as a degree-granting program in the second phase.According to the plan, the IIMB Indonesia (Singhasari) campus will offer an EEP designed specifically for senior leaders and professionals preparing to assume leadership roles. Its courses will combine core management disciplines with areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, global supply chains, climate and sustainability, and healthcare.In addition to classroom courses, candidates in Indonesia can also access IIMB’s massive open online course (MOOC) resource library. IIMB is the designated nodal institution for management education in Swayam. The institute said the initiative will enhance research collaboration, faculty development, advisory activities and policy partnerships as well as student exchanges and industry engagement in Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.“IIMB thanks the Government of India and the Government of India for the supportIndonesia will promote this initiative and facilitate the establishment of the campus,” the business school wrote in a statement.On July 7, 2026, Modi issued a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta: “We will establish the Bangalore campus of the famous Indian Institute of Management IIM in Indonesia, which will greatly benefit young people throughout the ASEAN region.”The announcement comes on the basis of the recently signed MoU between IIM Bangalore and the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where the international campus is expected to be located. The agreement was signed on July 6 at the Economic Affairs Coordination Department in Jakarta on behalf of IIM Bangalore in-charge director Professor U Dinesh Kumar and professor and council member Professor Jitamitra Desai.Professor U. Dinesh Kumar said this partnership will have a significant impact by building a talent pool of leaders who can lead not just Indonesian companies, but companies globally.Professor Desai said: “With our strong strengths in management education and research, IIMB is well-positioned to deliver high-quality, high-reputation management programs and make Indonesia a global hub for business education. We believe that this program will significantly improve employment opportunities for Indonesian citizens and expatriates, and promote the Southern Hemisphere as a premier destination for quality education and business leadership.”
