Kunal Kemmu remembers being advised to send gifts, host people, do a lot of PR to get more jobs: ‘I stayed at home for six to eight months’ |
There is Kemmu has spoken candidly about the unpredictability of the acting profession, admitting that long periods without work and lack of talent are realities that actors have to deal with. The actor, who earned acclaim for his debut ‘Madgaon Express’ and was recently seen hosting the Prime Video series ‘The Alliance’, revealed the constant struggle to achieve excellence and survive professionally.Kunal said that actors are often forced to choose between waiting for meaningful roles and accepting projects to stay active.“Sometimes you are faced with the problem of thinking, ‘I don’t feel that I am satisfied or satisfied in this role.’ But at the end of the day, I’m not working for a long time, so I’m just doing it because, at the end of the day, I’m trying to do what I need to do. I think that’s something that a lot of actors struggle with, especially if you don’t work enough or you don’t have enough work. There is often a battle between what you really want to do and the opportunities in front of you,” Kunal said in an interview with News18. Adding to the challenge, the actor explained that every player ultimately has to decide whether to wait for the right opportunity or succeed in whatever they want.“Do you do nothing and wait until you get what you want? Or do you say, ‘Okay, let me make the most of what I have, even though this wasn’t 100% smart for me?’ For me, I have always been someone who really needs to connect with the work and enjoy it, because the only reason I became an actor, now I do other things, is that acting brings me joy and makes me happy. This is why I chose to do nothing else and pursue this, and I knew what came with it. So yeah, that’s just a little bit, I think, that’s hard for me, and I know it’s the same for a lot of other players. “When asked if he has gone through inactive phases, Kunal said that such ups and downs are part of an actor’s life and he can come back at any stage of his career.“No, it happens all the time, I mean I’m very busy now, but sometimes in my life I went for about two years where I just worked. Then one film does not work, and sometimes I have been at home for six months, eight months, or even a year. And that part can come back. “Kunal also revealed that despite repeated advice from industry insiders, he never believed in relying too much on public relations or networking to advance his career. Instead, he has chosen to stay true to his feelings.“It just didn’t work for me. The advice is that you have to do a lot of PR and have a PR machine behind you, that’s very important. Or showing up in places, being in the right groups, hosting people, or sending gifts. I don’t think it’s bad advice. It doesn’t matter to me because it wasn’t really like that. I am a normal person, and I do what I think is right.”Emphasizing that his talent is more important than exposure, the actor said that he always focuses on developing his skills and not seeking fame.“And I honestly believe that your work is more important than anything else. Because if you are a craftsman and someone wants you, they are like a carpenter, right?
