Punjab opens post-masters scholarship portal for SC students, sets November 15 deadline for applications 2026-27
The Punjab government has opened applications for the post-matriculation scholarship scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students for the academic year 2026-27, providing thousands of eligible students the opportunity to pursue higher education without financial hardship.Announcing the launch of the scheme on Sunday, Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr Baljit Kaur said that the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) will start accepting applications from July 1. She urges all eligible students to complete the application process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute issues.The initiative aims to ensure that financial constraints do not force deserving students to abandon their academic ambitions.
Announcement of application timetable
The department has developed a detailed timeline for the scholarship process. Students can submit applications until November 15, 2026. If there are errors in your application, they can be corrected until November 30.Educational institutions have been directed to complete college-level verification by November 30, while final review by district, state and ministry officials will be concluded by December 15. A structured timeline is designed to ensure timely processing and disbursement of scholarship benefits.
The government emphasizes equal educational opportunities
Dr Baljit Kaul said the scholarship program reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for scheduled caste students and enhancing social justice through education.She said the initiative was in line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of establishing a ‘Langela Punjab’ where deserving students irrespective of their economic background would have access to quality education.The minister said higher education should be determined by talent and ambition rather than a family’s financial situation.
Scholarships linked to employment and reduced immigration
The minister also highlighted the government’s wider focus on creating employment opportunities in Punjab.She said the scholarship scheme, combined with transparent and merit-based recruitment, would reduce the financial pressure on economically disadvantaged families while encouraging educated youth to develop their careers in the state.The government believes improving education and employment opportunities would also help deter skilled young people from migrating in search of opportunities elsewhere.
District officials instructed to maximize awareness
To ensure that every eligible student benefits from the scheme, Dr Baljit Kaur directed the District Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Officers to organize awareness and facilitation camps in villages, towns and remote areas.These camps will help students understand eligibility criteria, complete the application process, and avoid mistakes that can delay scholarship application approval.
Educational institutions play a key role
The minister also directed various government departments – including higher education, medical education and research, technical education and industrial training, school education and animal husbandry – to work closely with affiliated institutions to help eligible students complete their applications within the stipulated deadline.All colleges and educational institutions are requested to actively assist applicants to ensure that the review is completed on time.
Government reiterates commitment
Reiterating the state’s stance, Dr Baljit Kaul said the Punjab government will continue to provide all possible support to deserving students so that financial challenges do not become a barrier to higher education.As the application process begins, the government is equally focusing on financial aid, institutional support and awareness campaigns to ensure that scholarships reach every eligible Scheduled Caste student in Punjab.(With PTI input)
