‘Satluj’: Cast, plot, censor certification, trailer, OTT release date of Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky starrer revealed | Hindi Movie News
Three years after clashing with the Indian censor board, ‘Satluj’, Honey TrehanThe drama about the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, which finally aired on OTT platforms worldwide on July 3, was released without any cuts.
‘Satluj’ throwers, plotters and carts
The official trailer of ‘Satluj’ (earlier known as ‘Punjab ’95’) showcases the action thriller directed by Honey Trehan. Inspired by real events, movie stars Diljit Dosanjh Like the famous human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, together Arjun Rampal I am Suvinder Vicky. Set in the dark backdrop of Punjab’s terrorist era, the trailer depicts the relentless search for truth as a common man risks his life to expose the pain of over 25,000 mishaps. With a deep and brooding tone, it depicts a powerful struggle for justice against systemic corruption and silent voices.
Satluj journey through censor certification
The video, which is now available on ZEE5 Global, went through three rounds before reaching the public. It started as ‘Ghallughara’, a word based on history, referring to the massacres of Sikhs in 1746, 1762 and 1984. In late 2022, RSVP submitted the film for certification by the Central Board of Film Certification in India. Six months later, the team removed it, but only 21 bars were installed and the title was changed to ‘Punjab ’95’. RSVP took the matter to the Bombay High Court to challenge the decision. Around the same time, the film’s screening at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival fell through, and it was pulled from the lineup.
The director why this film is now called ‘Satluj’
As reported in Variety India, Trehan said, “We could not find the original title of the film. The title is now ‘Satluj,’. This is the complete film, without cuts or compromises, in its original form as we always wanted. It would not have been possible without Diljit Paji and our producers and their willingness to stand up to his integrity. As Diljit Paji and I said earlier, we cannot agree that this film should not be tampered with.“
Diljit Dosanjh plays Khalra in ‘Satluj’
Dosanjh, who portrays Khalra, shared, “The killing of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra ji and his contribution to society are the main reasons why I chose to be a part of this film. I felt that I had a great responsibility in this film and I committed myself to portraying such an inspiring person in an honest, sincere and dignified manner.”

Trehan is also known for the 2020 thriller ‘Raat Akeli Hai’ and its 2025 sequel, ‘Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders’. Suvinder Vicky appeared in the series ‘Kohrra’, as well as ‘The Fourth Direction’, which played in Cannes, and ‘Milestone’, which played in Venice.
