Jodie Foster: Brad Pitt’s ‘F1’ Movie Feels AI-Made, Says Hollywood Is Changing |
Jodie Foster said that Brad Pitt’s racing film ‘F1’ is an example of how creative intelligence can influence modern filmmaking and reinvent the art of Hollywood. The actor made the comments during a panel discussion at the Aspen Festival of Ideas this week, where he discussed the changing landscape of the entertainment industry alongside Michael Lynton, a former studio executive. In Tuesday’s episode titled “Who Owns the Future of Hollywood,” Foster said the film’s design and performance suggest it may have been created by artificial intelligence. “I’m not saying this sarcastically. How could I? This movie went on to make millions of dollars. But I watch a movie like ‘F1’ and I’m like, ‘F1’ was made by AI,” he said while laughing at the Colorado event. “Isn’t that right?” Actors say lines exactly as they would be written if a computer were writing exactly what would be appropriate at that moment. “
The success of the film is its sales
Even Foster noted that the AI-powered film “F1” has been a huge commercial success, grossing $634 million worldwide according to various categories. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards including best picture, winning in the sound category, showing that audiences and industry voters responded positively to the project regardless of its design.
Instead of rejecting artificial intelligence, Fosterd made clear how filmmakers should live with technology. They identified applications where AI tools could be useful. “What we would all like is for filmmakers to be able to control AI without forgetting this,” he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining control over the technology. For “smaller things” like previz previewing video footage before production, Foster acknowledged that AI tools could be useful in the production of the film. He gave an example from his recent work to show how AI can be used effectively. “If we can control AI consistently over time we can create things that show us and we can be successful,” he said.Foster mentioned a series of dreams in his latest film ‘My Private Life’ which used the help of AI. He described the pictures as absurd but in the end he was able to achieve what he wanted. The model showed him that he believes that when filmmakers keep the artistic skills of the AI tasks, the technology can provide results that work with the artistic vision and not against it.
