Bruce Foxton, the legendary singer and famous member of The Jam, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The singer and bassist shared the news recently, just months before his 71st birthday.

The singer addressed online speculation about his health and confirmed that he has Parkinson’s disease. He also revealed that the disease was caused by complications from old cancer treatments, according to his Facebook post.He wrote: “Now I face the future of life with Parkinson’s disease…and I am determined to do it as best as I can.” Since last year, the singer has also suffered from a chest infection, which prevented him from singing and forced him to stop performing. He added, “Severe fevers and chest infections plagued me for six years, and the medical advice was to rest and take medication.”“Regarding his illness and his treatment, the singer said that “having the right medication has given me another chance to continue doing what I love and what I live in a comfortable and supportive environment.” He concluded by encouraging fans about the story, saying, “I’m going to keep playing for the rest of my life as much as I can.”

According to reports from the Cleveland Clinic, Parkinson’s disease is “a progressive disease that affects movement. It usually begins with tremors, stiffness or slowness. It occurs when the brain cells that produce dopamine stop working over time. There is no cure, but medication and therapy can help relieve symptoms to improve daily life.”
