The life and legendary career of Clive Davis was honored at his funeral on Monday. Davis’ memorial service, which was closed to the public, was screened by the synagogue.Davis launched the careers of many stars, including Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and Kenny G, and inspired others such as Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. Davis died on June 22 at his Manhattan home at the age of 94, weeks after being hospitalized for respiratory problems.

Dionne Warwick, Kenny G and Gayle King were among the stars spotted out and about on Monday morning. No details have been released about who will speak or participate in the conference.

According to Variety, music legends Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and several other stars paid heartfelt tributes to the great, celebrating his incredible life and lasting impact on the music industry. The event featured several touching speeches from Springsteen, Keys, Barry Manilow, Dionne Warwick, and Davis’ children, Fred and Doug.Jennifer Hudson delivered a powerful performance that became one of the most entertaining parts of the conference.

Alicia Keys pays tribute

In her speech, as reported by Variety, Keys recalled her first readings of Davis and opened up about the endless support and friendship they gave her over the years of working together. “You didn’t just sign an artist. You got a soul,” Keys said. “You didn’t see the music I made before, and the music that was inside me, waiting for someone wise and brave to call it forward. You called ahead. You have called me forward.”“I respect you, and I love you. I am because you believed I could be. Thank you for the music, the vision, the encouragement of friendship. Basically every time, every time.”“Thank you for seeing me right from the beginning, even before I saw myself.” With all my heart, all my life, and every note I’ve ever played,” concluded Alicia.

Bruce Springsteen remembers Clive Davis

Bruce Springsteen took the stage to say, “Clive was big and amazing and brave and full of ideas and he just believed, believed, believed, believed,” he said. “He was dressed like a king and he was born to run – everything!”“I just strummed the guitar. I think I played ‘Growing Up’ and ‘Rising to Saint in the City. Songs that could have been put on my first album. And when I finished, Clive, he smiled, he just said, ‘Welcome to Columbia Records.’“And in those few words, he changed my life forever. Forever. Nothing has been the same since that day. On that day, Clive showed a 22-year-old boy the same love, the same kindness, the same respect he would have shown me. After my success for the next 50 years, nothing changed.”He concluded, “He led the audience to the most powerful and inspiring music. And he didn’t just love the music, Clive really loved the people who made the music, regardless of the pain in the ass,” he laughed. He loved these people forever, because of his loyalty, and he told me that this is how he always saw me, and I loved him very much. Clive loved me so much.
