Preparing for NEET? AIR 9 Gaurav Singh says consistency is more important than long hours
this National testing agency NTA announced the NEET UG results 2026 on July 16, 2026. More than 11.21 lakh candidates qualified for the largest medical entrance examination in the country. When students across India check their scorecards, Gaurav Singh is one of the candidates who has made it to the top, having secured All India Rank (AIR) 9 in Re-NEET UG 2026.Soon after the results were announced, Gaurav opened up about the preparation strategies that helped him rank among the top medical aspirants in the country. He spoke about his preparations in an interview with ANI.
“My main focus is consistency and discipline”
Unlike many students who believe that long hours of study will lead to success, Gaurav says his approach is based on maintaining a stable daily routine.In an interview with ANI, he said, “…while preparing for NEET, my main focus was consistency and discipline.”He explains that he never believes in overstudying a given day. Instead, his focus remains on consistently following the same routine throughout his preparation.“It’s not about learning a lot in one day, but reading every day, writing papers every day, listening to the teacher’s lectures and constantly revising – this used to be my strategy…” he told ANI.According to Gaurav, regularly solving question papers and revising concepts over and over helped him strengthen his understanding and improve his performance over time.
After two years of preparation, he cleared NEET in his first attempt
The AIR 9 holder also revealed that he spent two years preparing for the exam and successfully passed it on the first try. “I prepared for two years and cleared NEET in my first attempt,” Gaurav told ANI in an interview.He stressed that revision should always be a priority throughout the preparation process. “You have to review as much as you can and work as hard as you can,” he said.Gaurav also acknowledged that setbacks are part of every student’s journey and advised aspirants not to lose faith when faced with difficulties. “One must be motivated enough, if one encounters some setbacks, to overcome them and improve further,” he added.
AIR 9 Topper’s message to future NEET aspirants
Gaurav conveyed a message to students preparing for the upcoming NEET examination, once again emphasizing the importance of discipline.Giving advice to aspirants, he told ANI, “Discipline is very important. Prepare with discipline and all the subjects will be cleared and the numbers will improve…”His message comes as thousands of students begin preparing for next year’s exams in the hope of gaining admission to medical schools across the country.
Over 11.21 Lakh candidates qualified for NEET UG 2026
NTA conducted rre-NEET UG 2026 on June 21 at 5,440 exam centers across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared for the exam and more than 11.21 lakh qualified for admission to undergraduate medicine, dentistry, AYUSH and allied courses.This year, Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana jointly won the exam with 715 marks out of 720. The NTA said 19 candidates scored more than 700 points and 138 candidates scored more than 690 points.After the results are declared, the Medical Consultative Committee (MCC) will conduct consultations for 15% seats in the all-India quota, while state authorities will oversee consultations for state quota admissions.
