NEET 2027 to completely shift to computer-based test format: Dharmendra Pradhan
New Delhi: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical undergraduate admission will be completely shifted to computer-based test (CBT) format from 2027 onwards, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. This shift will end the use of paper-and-pencil OMR forms in medical entrance examinations.The minister said the decision was taken to strengthen the vetting process and address concerns related to security and transparency. He also said investigative agencies would continue to look into irregularities related to the exams and those found responsible would face action.OMR sheet replaced from NEET 2027Announcing the change in the exam pattern, Pradhan said, “Agale saal se NEET UG pariksha Computer-based hogi, jo mool jad hai OMR wo nahi rahega”, indicating that the OMR-based system will not continue from the 2027 exam cycle.With the move to CBT, candidates will answer questions through a computer interface rather than marking answers on a paper answer sheet. However, the existing examination structure will remain unchanged. NEET UG will continue to hold 720 marks and include questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.Candidate adaptation preparation methodsThe change in exam format will require candidates to become familiar with digital exam platforms. Candidates preparing for NEET 2027 need to practice through computer-based mock exams to improve speed, accuracy and familiarity with the online exam environment.This shift is expected to change the way students conduct exercises as screen-based tests will replace the OMR-based method of physics preparation.Minister says CBI probe will look into irregularitiesSpeaking about exam-related issues, the Education Minister said investigations would continue and anyone involved in inappropriate behavior would not be spared.“The CBI will go deep and no one will be spared this time. No one was spared last time either, but now I say that even after the implementation of the Radhakrishnan Commission, incidents still happened,” Pradhan said.The minister’s speech referred to the current focus on exam reform and accountability measures after concerns were raised about the conduct of national-level entrance exams.Government pays attention to exam safety measuresThe move to a fully computer-based format is part of a wider effort to strengthen the exam system and improve security arrangements. The government has previously taken steps through committees and inquiries to address issues related to exam administration.NEET UG is one of the largest entrance exams in India and is conducted every year across the country for admission to undergraduate medical courses. The move to CBT will introduce a new testing format for medical aspirants while retaining the existing academic model and scoring system.
