Starting the day at 253/3, India extended their first innings total to 411, with Chauhan converting his overnight 55 into a 150 off 244 deliveries. He played 20 fours and one six after a crucial innings of 155 in partnership with centurion Kushagra Ojha, who scored 111 runs.
The duo’s stand was marked by another century partnership from day one when Ojha and captain Yashobardhan Chauhan put together 122 for the third wicket.
After Ojha’s departure, India lost wickets at regular intervals, conceding 6 wickets for 134 runs. Mannar, however, remained calm, taking a strike at low and adding a useful run before what ended up being the ninth wicket to fall. His efforts ensured that India took a commanding lead in the first innings.
The bowlers then carried the momentum into the Sri Lankan innings. Pranav Raghavendra and C. Venkata took two wickets each while Rohit Yadav played a devastating role and ended up with 2/4. Sri Lanka struggled to build partnerships throughout the innings, with only Dulnith Sigera providing resistance through a brisk 31 before being bowled by Rohit.
Sri Lanka fell to 122/8 with India firmly in the driver’s seat and the visitors still trailing far behind on the first-innings total. The hosts will now look to settle the remaining wickets quickly and further strengthen their position on day three.
