Supreme Court imposes Rs 3 lakh fine on Samay Raina for breaking law, making false statements in ‘India’s Got Latent’ case: ‘He has taken court to step on it’ | Hindi Movie News

The Supreme Court on Tuesday awarded Rs 3 lakh to comedian Samay Raina, finding that he made false statements in court and failed to follow through on his earlier statements in cases arising out of India’s Got Latent controversy.A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice JV Mohana ordered Raina to deposit the money within two weeks, warning of enforcement action if he did not comply.“You have boarded the court to board,” the bench noted while passing the verdict.The news came after listening to the requests made by the makers of Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlanialong with the Cure SMA Foundation, following the controversy surrounding a remark made on the first season of Raina’s India’s Got Latent.During the trial, Advocate Aparajita Singh told the court that Raina failed to reach out to the Cure SMA Foundation or people suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), despite the court’s confirmation.“Samay Raina is protesting, but he has not spoken to the SMA Foundation or people suffering from SMA as per the court order. I don’t know what kind of youth he is. I shudder to think,” said Singh.Appearing at the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also expressed concern over Raina’s behaviour. Referring to one of the recent matches, Mehta said Raina seemed to be mocking the situation.“Recently, he started a new program. He said that now, in the beginning, he is doing something that he didn’t do in the last series. He was hanging nimbu-mirchi. He didn’t name anyone, but the script looked good,” Mehta told the court.The Solicitor General said that he had initially decided not to tell the story, but he did so after hearing that Raina had not followed the court’s order regarding the SMA Foundation.Raina’s counsel responded by saying that the failure to contact the foundation was not motivated by selfishness and assured the court that it would try to persuade the actor to comply.
