Blake Garrett, a former child actor best known for his role as Plug in the family drama ‘How to Eat Fried Worms’, died on February 8 in Oklahoma at the age of 33. He was found in a homeless shelter in Tulsa. His mother said Blake went to the emergency room last week after experiencing severe pain and was diagnosed with shingles.According to a summary report from the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner obtained by TMZ, Garrett’s passing has been listed as a high risk of fentanyl, in which he passed controlled accidents. His mother worried that he might have self-medicated for the pain of the viral infection, especially since he had remained sober for three years before that. He believed that his death would be a tragic accident.

Born on September 14, 1992, in Austin, Texas, Garrett began his singing career at the age of 8, holding leading roles in Austin theaters. His early acting credits include portraying the magician in ‘Aladdin and his Magic Lamp’ and playing Charlie Brown in ‘Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute’. Additional acting credits included appearances in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Annie’ and ‘Grease’, showing her versatility in many roles during her childhood years.

Garrett’s most notable film appearance came in the 2006 children’s drama ‘How to Eat Fried Worms’, where he portrayed the character of Plug. His performance in the ensemble brought him recognition, as he shared the Youth Award the following year for Best Young Ensemble in a Feature Film. The film, written and directed by Bob Dolman and based on Thomas Rockwell’s 1973 children’s book of the same name, also starred James Rebhorn, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Tom Cavanagh.
